Let's start by taking stock between the true and the false on organic cosmetics.

1. An organic product and a natural product are the same thing: FALSE

To understand what we are talking about, let's go back to the definitions of these terms.

A natural cosmetic product is a product that mainly contains ingredients of natural origin. An ingredient is said to be natural or of natural origin when the active ingredient used is directly extracted from nature (mineral, plant or animal) or by a simple extraction such as grinding, pressure, maceration without using any chemical element, such as solvents .

An organic cosmetic product is a natural product, which in addition is required to have a certain percentage of ingredients from organic farming. An "organic" ingredient designates an ingredient resulting from organic farming, which therefore does not use any synthetic chemical, such as pesticides, chemical herbicides, artificial fertilizers or growth hormones, nor GMOs.

Thus, at Cosmebio, a natural cosmetic is a cosmetic that contains at least 95% natural ingredients and an organic cosmetic is a cosmetic that contains at least 95% organic ingredients among the ingredients that can be certified organic.

At CHO, for example, we indicate the% natural and the% organic in our products. Some products are labeled Organic and others Natural.

2. Organic cosmetics are 100% natural: FALSE

If you've read the above explanation correctly, then you know how to answer this question! ;)
Who says organic does not necessarily say 100% natural. They are at least 95% natural, according to the label criteria, then everything depends on the brand and the formulation of the product. By choosing a labeled product, on the other hand, you have the guarantee that the remaining 5% is not harmful to your health or to the environment (this is the main difference between the organic label and the ISO 16128 standard released at the end of 2017).

At CHO, our products are at least 99% natural and all of our oils are 100% natural. With us, only our preservatives are not natural, they are naturo-identical, which means that they exist in a natural state but we reproduce them synthetically, mainly for the preservation of the environment. These are very mild preservatives, which are accepted by organic labels and have nothing to do with parabens or phenoxyethanol.

3. One organic ingredient is enough to qualify a product as organic: FALSE

This is called GREEN WASHING. Legally, only a product which is labeled or which has already been labeled can be qualified as an organic product (see question 1). The only exception is if the entire formula is 100% organic then this product can be qualified as organic.

4. Organic cosmetics are ecological: TRUE
The label guarantees the naturalness of the formula but also the low impact on the environment. Thus, the manufacturing and cleaning processes are regulated so as to exclude techniques that would be harmful to nature. Packaging is reasoned and controlled, certain plastics are excluded and the label asks brands to continually improve their packaging.
This is how at CHO we always favor glass packaging (100% recyclable) and we choose recyclable plastics for our airless and now we have refillable bottles for absolute hydration creams and nourishing and soothing.
Animals are respected: organic cosmetics only use ingredients naturally produced by animals (such as wax, honey or milk). Only carmine is an exception, for lack of a plant-based alternative. Some brands go further and offer organic and vegan cosmetics. Note: animal testing has been banned in Europe since 2013.

5. Organic cosmetics are less safe than conventional ones: FALSE

Organic cosmetics and conventional cosmetics have undergone the same toxicological tests and the same quality tests. When a cosmetic product is released onto the market, it means that it has been deemed "safe" for your health. However, it is true that organic cosmetics do not contain the same preservatives as conventional cosmetics, they are softer and therefore weaker. It is therefore necessary to respect the expiration dates of the products to avoid any reaction.

6. Organic cosmetics present a greater risk of allergy: FALSE

Organic products are subjected to the same allergy tests as conventional products. The use of essential oils is strictly controlled, the maximum% must be observed to avoid any reaction. It is also important to know if you have any allergies and to spot if these allergens are present on the products before using them. If you are generally intolerant, prefer products that are hypoallergenic or intended for sensitive skin. This is just as valid in organic as in conventional.

7. Organic cosmetics are less effective than conventional products: FALSE

You can find organic cosmetics on the market that are just as effective as conventional cosmetics. Natural active ingredients, whether they are moisturizing, nourishing, regenerating, soothing, regulating or even sanitizing, are present in nature. However, the cost is not the same, a natural asset is generally more expensive than a synthetic asset. The organic price is more indicative of the effectiveness of a product. However, in both cases, it is important to find these active ingredients in sufficient quantity in your products to be truly effective.

Thus at CHO we favor short formulas to be able to put our assets in large quantities and ensure maximum efficiency. CHO beauty oils, for example, contain 100% active ingredients.

8. Organic cosmetics don't smell good: FALSE

Tastes and colors… ! It is mostly, in reality, habit. In organic, many ingredients present in the olfactory compositions of classic cosmetics are prohibited. Perfumes are thus composed with natural scents (aroma, essential oils) present in nature. Essential oils, also used in perfumery, are excellent perfuming agents which have the additional benefit of acting on the physical and mental sphere. They also allow you to make beautiful olfactory compositions, as the possibilities are great.

So we do not play at all on the same olfactory palette, it may be surprising at the beginning because the nose is not necessarily used to it, we like it or we don't like it, it is specific to each one. Perfumes, however, can be very pleasant! Have you ever smelled our hydratense serum or our makeup remover oil?

On the other hand, we note that fragrances are more volatile in organic products and therefore leave faster. Wouldn't that be an advantage in the end?

9. Organic cosmetics tend to stick and be greasy: FALSE
This was true 15 years ago, today the textures have evolved! We now know how to make fine, fluid or creamy textures without being greasy. Try our creams, you will see!

10. A label is useless: FALSE

The label reassures consumers on several points:

- A minimum% of natural and / or organic in the formulas

- The traceability of the materials used

- Compliance with manufacturing standards (hygiene, rigor, traceability of the final product, compliance with regulations, not tested on animals)

- The non-presence of material likely to be dangerous for health and the environment

In short, on the seriousness and honesty of the brand.
